Peter D. Hansel, president of Filtrine Manufacturing Co., serves on the boards of the Keene Downtown Housing Corporation and the Foundation for the Preservation of Historic Keene. He is a member and past president of the Keene Rotary Club and a member of the Chamber Singers of Keene. He has served as a Keene city councilor, chairman of the Keene Conservation Commission, and on the boards of directors for the Harris Center for Conservation Education and the Friends of Open Space in Keene. He has also served on the boards of the Ashuelot Valley Environmental Observatory and the Ashuelot Valley Refuse Disposal District.
Born in New Jersey, Peter grew up in Connecticut, and earned a bachelor’s degree from Princeton University with a major in environmental studies, under the Geology Department, in 1972. He worked briefly for the Pennsylvania Environmental Council before joining Filtrine in 1973. After five years in California, he and his wife, Bridget, moved back to Keene, where they raised four children.
