Nancy Boyd Grant

Nancy Boyd Grant Nancy has spent most of her professional career in the field of education. She started out at Cushing Academy in MA as Assistant Dean of Students, then became Dean of Students in 1978. She and her husband David, an English teacher, moved to Milton Academy (MA) in 1980, where she served as an Admissions Officer, Director of Financial Aid, dorm parent, and student advisor. In 1983, she and David founded The Mountain School Program of Milton Academy, an innovative, nationally recognized one-semester academic program for high school juniors located on a working organic farm in Vershire, VT.

After eleven years at The Mountain School, Nancy and David handed the reins over to a successor and moved to Norwich, VT, after spending a sabbatical semester helping to start a school in Ghana, West Africa. Nancy worked in the Dartmouth College admissions office and then for the United Way of the Upper Valley before accepting the role of Interim Head of School at Crossroads Academy in Lyme, NH in 1996. After her year at Crossroads, she returned to school and earned an M.Ed in Administration and Supervision from Antioch University New England in 2000.

In 1999, Nancy and David and their two sons moved to NJ. Nancy joined the staff of Newark Academy as Admissions Officer, Director of Financial Aid, and diversity coordinator. After several years there, she accepted a position as Director of Programs for New Jersey SEEDS, a non-profit organization based in Newark which assists low income students in preparing for and gaining admission to private schools.

In 2009, Nancy moved back to the Upper Valley and is now looking for her next professional adventure. In the meantime, she is serving as the Chair of the Appalachian Mountain Club’s Three Mile Island Camp Committee, a member of the Boards of Advisors of The Mountain School and Vermont Intercultural Semesters (VIS), and a member of the Board of Trustees of The Children’s Initiative. In New Jersey, she was a member of the Boards of Trustees of the South Orange/Maplewood Community Coalition on Race and New Jersey SEEDS.

In addition to Ghana, Nancy has traveled to Hong Kong, Thailand, India, Ladakh, Kenya, Egypt, South Africa, Argentina, and many European and Caribbean countries.
