MS in Organizational Leadership & Management

Effective managers create and sustain socially responsible, economically vibrant and humane organizations. Our MS in Organizational Leadership & Management program helps you develop the knowledge and skills to effect positive, lasting change in yourself and in your organization within today’s challenging environment. This comprehensive program highlights self knowledge, the reflective process, systems thinking, leadership and organizational management.

The MS in Organizational Leadership & Management is designed for professionals from all levels of for profit and nonprofit organizations, higher education, healthcare, small business and entrepreneurs who aspire to become better managers, responsible for making a difference in themselves, their workplaces, and their communities.

Students learn from one another’s diverse experiences and viewpoints. The programs’ shared curriculum has the flexibility that allows students to structure learning projects to match their professional interests.

Participate in an active learning experience.

The Antioch New England approach to training leaders and managers incorporates students’ personal and professional experiences. Your knowledge and perspectives inform class discussions, and your learning becomes immediately applicable in your work.

Build competency in key areas.

The integrated curriculum encourages students in their own growth and development as leaders. A focus of the program is on being able to work effectively with others and to collaborate within complex organizational systems.

Become more effectively immediately.

Our students find classroom learning directly applicable to the challenges they face in the workplace. Attend classes over the weekend and be more effective on Monday!

Flexible for the working professional.

The monthly, weekend schedule appeals to learners who want to pursue an advanced education, yet choose to remain in the mainstream of the workforce.

Increase your career potential and value to employers.

Our management programs emphasize practical experience and an individual’s career development. You design a practicum project in which you practice using the theories you’ve studied and the skills you’ve developed. There you fine tune your abilities, develop a leadership style which works well for you, and increase your effectiveness in the workplace.

Practicum

In place of a master’s thesis, our program culminates with a student-designed practicum project, focusing on their professional interests. Examples of past practicum projects include:
  • Building the foundations of a coaching practice, interviewing practitioners, taking workshops, and beginning a business plan
  • Transitioning to a career in volunteer management, engaging in a self-assessment relative to competencies identified, conducting interviews with managers of volunteer programs, and engaging in a job search
  • Preparing for advancement in higher education administration, developing expertise in models and practices of governance through research, and committee work in assessment

Program Delivery

  • Begins in Fall or Spring
  • About one weekend a month
  • 5 semesters to complete (incl summer)

What stands out about your program?
The faculty relied on us to bring our work issues to class—conflicts, the aftermath of downsizing, current corporate developments, anything at all that we needed help with. My classmates and I were all there because we wanted to do something better in life, whether it was changing careers or improving in current jobs. Together we worked through many difficult issues.

How are you using your Antioch New England experience and education?
Antioch gave me the confidence I needed to make a leap in my profession. I am now responsible for the entire operation of radiology and medical imaging services. I have 205 full-time staff, an operating budget of $25 million, and gross revenue of $180 million.

All the faculty counseling, coaching, and mentoring I found at Antioch has been vital, and continues to be useful every day in my role. Antioch faculty made a critical difference. They are passionate about developing leaders, and they do it with compassion and understanding.
