Kestenberg Movement Profile Strut

The KMP Strut was created while I was a student in the Dance Movement Therapy and Counseling Program at Antioch University New England (ANE), in Keene, NH. It was originally conceived as an idea for the program’s annual dance concert at ANE. I wanted to create some sort of performance art based on my course work. I thought the ideal subject would be the Kestenberg Movement Profile (KMP), after having taken two courses on Psychomotor Assessment taught by Susan Loman, an international expert in the KMP. I wanted to convey the movement patterns and theory, but package it in a fun, entertaining way. I chose a rap-style presentation to give it a sassy attitude.
The Kestenberg Movement Profile (KMP) is a complex tool for notating, categorizing, assessing, and interpreting not just movement, but non-verbal behavior.
The KMP Strut is broken into four sections: Tension Flow Rhythms and Attributes, Pre-Efforts and Efforts, Bipolar and Unipolar Shape Flow, and Shaping in Directions and Planes. The KMP Strut package includes a DVD, CD, and a booklet that contains the words, along with additional information. The KMP Strut package will be a helpful education tool for both students and professors. It demonstrates all the movement patterns in a very understandable way.

Susan helped arrange for CDR to provide funding to have the KMP Strut professionally recorded. Child Development Research is the parent organization that focuses on movement studies, as well as studies on the effect of the holocaust on second and third generations.
